History OF

BMiles The Wordsmith

My name is BMiles The Wordsmith, born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I started rapping at the age of 13, back in 1997. It all began when I saw my friends spitting rhymes in ciphers on the block — the energy pulled me in immediately. I wanted to join, so I started reciting my favorite rappers’ verses, pretending they were mine. My cousin called me out in front of everyone, and I got laughed at. That moment lit a fire in me.

My friends told me, “If you want to rap with us, you gotta write your own rhymes.” So I started writing — no help, just me in my room with a notebook and determination. I studied the greats: Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, AZ, Biggie, Jay-Z, Big L, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Big Pun, DMX, The LOX, OutKast, Scarface, and many others from what I consider the golden era of Hip-Hop — 1988 to 1998.

I studied rhyme patterns, schemes, metaphors, bar structure, and multi-syllable flow for hours on end. The first time I stepped into the booth — eight of us in my friend’s basement — I was nervous and completely off-beat. Lol. But I didn’t give up. I promised myself I’d never feel that way again. I practiced every day, returned to the mic, and eventually surpassed the same homeboys who first inspired me.

From middle school to adulthood, music became a lifelong journey. In 2010, when my mother passed away at 55, I lost my passion for a while. Doubt crept in, and I started to feel the weight of ageism in Hip-Hop. But my creative spirit found a new outlet through my YouTube channel, BMiles84 Conscious Channel, where I spoke on uplifting, thought-provoking topics. My subscribers constantly told me I “sounded like a rapper” and urged me to get back in the booth.

After hitting 10,000 subscribers, I decided — why not? I dove back in, studying the legends once again, writing, recording, and rediscovering my love for the craft. I connected with producer Gramatik and began creating an album — a seven-year process from 2018 to 2025, dedicated to refining my sound and message.

Getting back to rapping has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This isn’t just music — it’s a reflection of my evolution, my pain, my triumphs, and my purpose.

And here we are — BMiles The Wordsmith.
